5 REASONS TO USE RBT

Moss or algae on a patio or path can make it slippery when wet, on a tarmac tennis court it can mean the difference between safety and serious injury. On a synthetic grass tennis court or hockey pitch algae growth can be the prime cause of drainage failure, so controlling it will be of prime importance and should be addresses as soon as it appears.
On tarmac and artificial grass sports surfaces moss is easy to recognize as soon as it shows, everybody involved with outdoor surfaces has seen it before, but algae is much more difficult, and is usually only detectable once it impacts the grip or the drainage. At this point it will either make the surface dangerous to play on or the tennis court or pitch starts to hold water.

James Mead, Head Groundsman at Rugby School believes he has solved his algae nightmare with RBT for 5 key reasons:

'Unless you use a maintenance program like RBT you're reducing the lifespan of your pitch'

Safety
At Rugby School, surfaces have to stay usable and in pristine condition day in, day out for 365 days a year. James comments; 'When we put the rugby posts away they get painted with RBT, they get stored under trees and when we pull them back out again they're as good as new'.

Hygiene
General use chemicals may cause damage to the treated surface or be a health hazard. RBT not only treats surfaces efficiently, it reduces bacteria on the surface, is odourless and the surface can be used again quickly. "We've used it on all our artificial surfaces, PVC, canvas, perspex, galvanised posts, even wood" says James.

Longevity
If pitches aren’t kept clean and sediment builds up, grip suffers and your equipment deteriorates faster. And if you use the wrong product you could be dissolving the oils and causing the surface to disintegrate. ‘Unless you use a maintenance program like RBT you’re reducing the lifespan of your pitch’

Cost
With pitches costing from £200,000 and £750,000, maximizing the lifespan of their investments is crucial. A planned maintenance program could be the difference between lasting 10 and 15 years. ‘Spray anything that’s brand new with RBT, and it stays brand new’ says James.

Time
James has tried many different products over the years but has been using RBT for over 4 years and believes he has found the answer to his algae problem. A pitch can be treated in 30 minutes, rugby posts and cricket boards, tennis netting and dugouts are just as quick and easy to apply. It takes a long time to take apart things like netting and side screens, ‘if we can just spray them it’s much easier and a great time saver and it saves us more time by not having to repeat it’.
